NordVPN has launched NordWhisper, a new VPN protocol designed to bypass internet restrictions and enhance online privacy. The protocol helps users access the internet securely, even in countries or networks where VPN usage is restricted.
How NordWhisper Works
NordWhisper disguises VPN traffic as regular web activity, making it harder for network filters to detect and block. Unlike traditional VPN protocols such as OpenVPN and WireGuard, NordWhisper uses web tunnel technology to create a more seamless and discreet connection.
The protocol is initially available on Windows, Android, and Linux, with support for additional devices expected soon.
A Solution for Restricted Networks
NordVPN’s obfuscated servers already help bypass some VPN blocks, but NordWhisper takes it further by making VPN traffic appear like standard web browsing. This makes it particularly useful for users in regions with strict internet controls or those accessing restricted networks, such as school Wi-Fi.
According to NordVPN CTO Marijus Briedis, “We designed NordWhisper with our users in mind. It’s not just about getting around network restrictions; it’s about empowering people to work, communicate, and access essential services securely and freely, even in the most restrictive environments.”
Performance Considerations
While NordWhisper enhances accessibility, it may slightly reduce internet speeds compared to other protocols like NordLynx, which prioritizes speed. Users looking to stream high-definition content on services like Netflix, BBC iPlayer, or Disney Plus may prefer NordLynx for a smoother experience.
NordVPN is not alone in this innovation—Proton VPN’s Stealth protocol also employs similar techniques to bypass VPN restrictions.
With NordWhisper, NordVPN continues to expand its privacy-focused solutions, ensuring users can maintain secure and unrestricted internet access worldwide.
