If your Siri ever activated unexpectedly during a private conversation, you might be entitled to a payout from Apple.
This potential payment comes from a $95 million class action settlement involving allegations that Apple’s voice assistant, Siri, was unintentionally triggered and recorded users without their consent. Apple denies the claims but agreed to the settlement.
Who’s Eligible?
To qualify, you must meet both of these conditions:
-
You owned or purchased an Apple device with Siri in the U.S. between September 17, 2014, and December 31, 2024.
-
You experienced unintended Siri activations during private conversations.
Eligible devices include iPhones, iPads, Macs, Apple Watches, Apple TVs, and HomePods.
The lawsuit claims that Apple and its partners used data from these accidental activations to target ads, including on obscure topics discussed privately. Apple, however, maintains that it has never used Siri data for advertising, sold it, or created marketing profiles from it.
In response to earlier privacy concerns, Apple stated in January that it minimizes data collection by processing many Siri requests directly on devices instead of on servers.
How to File a Claim
-
Check your email for a message with the subject: “Lopez Voice Assistant Class Action Settlement.” It should include your confirmation code and claimant ID.
-
You can also visit the official lawsuit website and fill out a public claim form, but you’ll need to provide proof of device purchase.
Claims must be submitted by July 2, 2025, and you can file for up to five Siri-enabled devices. Each device may earn up to $20, with payments expected later this year, after the final court approval on August 1.
